Founded in 2014 and proudly headquartered in North Carolina’s fast-growing Triangle region, Clouds Brewing has been serving up bold brews and gathering places ever since. Matthew MacNeil and John Oldendorf opened the doors in Raleigh with a 15-barrel brewhouse and three thirty-barrel fermenters — and never stopped adding tanks.

    Raleigh, where it started

Matthew MacNeil and John Oldendorf open Clouds Brewing in Raleigh on a 15-barrel brewhouse with three thirty-barrel fermenting tanks.  Located in North Raleigh, we originally planned on this being just a production space, but we eventually caved to the public and opened it up on weekends.   Currently planning on closing this facility in 2027.   Also in 2014 we opened a full service restaurant in downtown Raleigh, just off Glenwood south.   This closed in 2023, but don't get it confused with our newest location just across the street from the original.

  2. 2016

    Durham Brewcade

The second home lands on West Main Street in Durham, pairing our German-inspired lineup with a wall of arcade cabinets.

  3. 2024

    Chapel Hill Taproom

A cellar-style taproom opens in Chapel Hill, bringing fresh Clouds pours to Franklin Street regulars.  Expanded recently to create a better stage area for bands, parties and other entertaining events.

  4. 2026

    Cary production brewery

We moved most production to Cary, NC with capacity for more than 12,000 barrels a year, and add a second Raleigh location with an event space, cider manufacturing and a full service restaurant.

We brew for other breweries too

Our Cary production brewery supports more than 10,000 barrels a year. Alongside our core lineup we now produce beer for other breweries — private label our recipes, or bring us yours and we will brew, package and get it out the door.
